Divorce is a time of uncertainty and substantial change. Whether you’ve been married 20 years or haven’t even celebrated your one-year anniversary, it’s going to be a trying process. To make it through to the other side, you must reduce stress. Here are 5 easy ways to start feeling better as you move through the divorce process.

  • Give yourself time: Take time to breathe and find your center. Don’t feel like you have to have everything together right away. Untangling from a relationship takes time.
  • Nurture friendships: Rely on your friends and accept their help. Too often, people push others away because they don’t want to be a burden. Your friends are here to love and support you.
  • Explore new interests: Get your mind refocused on something other than the pain and stress. What is something you’ve always wanted to do? Find a new hobby or rediscover an old one.
  • Create a routine: There’s comfort in routine. During divorce, you must find a new routine. What does that look like for you?
  • Avoid power struggles: Limit your communication with your soon-to-be ex-spouse. Let your attorney handle this and you focus on moving forward with your life.
